Results

Results turns judging scores into placements, handles ties, assigns special awards, and publishes everything to exhibitors.

Tabulation

Scores are tabulated per class. Where several judges scored an entry, their cards are averaged first.

Placement depth is configurable — how many places a class awards. Where the scorecard carries point thresholds, an entry that does not reach the threshold does not take that placement even if it ranks there.

Ties

Tied entries share a place and skip the next. Two entries tied for first are both first, and the next entry is third.

Each tied entry takes the full premium. Two firsts each get the first-place money; the premium is not split.

Best per household

Where the household rule applies, a household's lower-ranked entries are suppressed before ranking. Ribbons then flow down to the next exhibitor rather than leaving a gap.

Hand overrides

The arithmetic can be overridden. A superintendent who needs to place an entry differently can do so, and the override wins — it is recorded as an override, not disguised as a score.

Judging is not always purely numerical, and pretending otherwise just means people keep a second set of results on paper.

Special and named awards

Beyond placements, departments carry their own awards — Commander Mumford Award, Best in Show, Honey. Each has its own name, its own presentation notes, and is assigned to an entry independently of the placement ranking.

Publishing

Publishing does two things:

1. Results appear in the exhibitor portal
2. Congratulation emails go out to placed exhibitors, including their judge's notes

Nothing is visible to exhibitors until you publish, so you can tabulate, review, override, and check before anything goes out.

Review before you publish

Read the class list once before publishing. Fixing a placement afterwards means an email that has already been read.

Then premiums

Once results are published, Premiums tallies what each exhibitor is owed and runs the payout.
